In Canada and The United States we say trick or treat . You are probably asking why do we say that, we say that because if you give candy to children they will not trick the owner or do something like tepee the hose with toilet paper teepee. The phrase originated in greece with guising and souling . Souling is where people would go door to door getting food in return for saying prayers to dead people on soul day. Guising is where scottish children would wear masks and costumes to prevent evil spirits. immigrants brought both of these things together and made trick or treating in the 20th century.
